Alberto Smania is the founder of the company bearing his name. He was the captain of the Navy and the official pilot of Fiat in rally racing. In 1967, in his craft workshop, which produced metal gratings and gates, produces the first table from metal waste. It was from this first table that the soul of the company Smania was born, which through an entrepreneurial look left its mark on the company: in a passion for beauty, in the search for new materials, exclusively natural, and in shape, with manic attention to every detail and quality. The transition from metal to wood was a natural decision, as was the expansion of the product range: from tables to bookcases, from chairs to beds and furniture for bedrooms.

In 1972, Smania took part for the first time at the Furniture Salon in Milan, while its products began to be shipped from Padua throughout Europe and beyond. Liana (midollino) and bamboo (bambù) are the main materials in the production of the 70s, which draws inspiration from the fashion of colonial and exotic countries and the natural ability of these materials to be hand-bound. Then the root (radica) of the American hazel, elm and myrtle appears. Refined and valuable material, which Smania - much earlier than other manufacturers - managed to give shape and brilliance, bringing to perfection, which was one of the reasons for the economic boom of the 80s. The ebony of tropical Africa's wenge (wengè fiammato) and collections that combine wood, metal and leather into the perfect “symbiosis” of ethnic taste and modern Italian style are synonymous with the late 90s.
