The main distinguishing feature of a natural diamond from an artificial one is the ability to self-sharpen. In practice, this affects the preparation time. Artificial diamond quickly becomes dull and loses its cutting ability, while natural diamond retains its cutting ability. The hardness of natural diamond is approximately 150 GPa or more, while artificial diamonds do not correspond to such values. Thanks to their octahedral shape and resistance to mechanical and chemical influences, natural diamonds are able to retain their cutting ability longer.
